«Touring the hospitals of Salerno and Mercato San Severino for a histological examination»

It is subjected to polypoctemia to the colon and then is forced to wandering between hospitals, cups and clinics to find out the outcome of the histological examination. A sort of “do it yourself” diagnostic due to the lack of a connection service between two hospitals in the country same healthcare company. It is the story featuring a 62-year-old lady from Cavese P.V., although it could be the misadventure of many patients who have suffered the same fate. The hospitals in question are the Fucito of Mercato San Severino and the Ruggi of Salerno.

The facts refer to a few days ago when Mrs Cavese, accompanied by her husband, a well-known professional from Cavese, went to the Mercato San Severino hospital for a colonoscopy, during which some polyps were removed. «I had to have a colonoscopy check – says Mrs Cavese, who prefers to remain anonymous – and I turned toMercato San Severino hospital which can boast of very good specialists in this field.” Once the colonoscopy is done, the surprise arrives which does not concern so much the outcome, because the presence of formations (the so-called polyps) are very frequent, but rather what follows. «They removed two polyps from me – the woman continues to say – which they should have been analyzed to know their nature. There was a need for a histological examination. My husband and I thought that the material to be analyzed was sent directly from the Mercato San Severino hospital to the division Ruggi’s pathological anatomygiven that it is the same hospital company. But it wasn’t like that.” And the woman continues: “I was told that I had to analyze them myself.”

There were and still are two possibilities: «I could have turned to a private centerincurring a substantial expense and among other things not knowing which one to choose for this type of exam, or follow the process with Ruggi of which Fucito is a satellite garrison. My husband and I opted for the second choice and began a real pilgrimage between cup ed endless files and the search for the right division. I wonder how is all this possible? As an elderly person or someone who is not familiar with bouncing from one office to another in search of the right one would do.” But that’s not all: «To have i results – explains the lady – you have to wait one twenty days and call to find out if the results are ready.”

And he admits: «Standing in line, I listened to many inconvenience from other patients and I believe that many of these are not just the result of shortcomings and scarce economic resources, but also of one bad organization».
