Unresolved question

It must be said that if the season is mild without too many vagaries of the weather, next year Levante could regain the Blue Flag without problems. Operators and associations urge mayoral candidates to find feasible and structural solutions together with the Region and the competent bodies to resolve the Genica problem, which is always dry near the mouth except when it rains heavily.
Yesterday, when we read that the assignment of the banner delivered on Tuesday by the Fee Italia Foundation to the Municipalities, included only the Ponente and Sottomonte areas for Pesaro, we thought it was an oversight. Then a series of phone calls clarified: no forgetting, Levante isn’t there. What most likely had an impact was what happened exactly one year ago, on 16 May 2023, when the flood caused the Genica to overflow, causing extensive damage also to the factories close to the mouth. It was the beginning of the season with the lifeguards setting up the beach. The consequences also included a temporary ban on bathing near the mouth of the stream which was then repeated later in the summer in the event of heavy rain.

What happened

«It can happen – explains Andrea Giuliani, head of Confartigianato state-owned enterprises – that if the Environment office of a Municipality knows that an area close to a river is at risk, in order not to lose the assignment of the Blue Flag tout court, it chooses to be careful not to include it in the application. But I don’t know if this is the case in Pesaro.”
«The non-confirmation of the Blue Flag does not mean that there is a ban or danger of bathing in front of the establishments in front – specifies Davide Ippaso, municipal manager of Confesercenti – this does not mean that the exclusion of 2 out of 4 areas clashes with the destination of a tourist Pesaro. For the tour operator Vincenzo Ricci for example and other hoteliers, the best and technically feasible thing, without the risk of incurring authorizations and bureaucratic procedures that are difficult to arrive at, is to have a mini-purifier designed before the mouth. «It is a solution – observes Ricci – which must be examined by technicians and engineers but in our opinion it would at least solve the discharge into the sea, which brings a bit of everything even pollutants from those upstream who still discharge without control».
