BRUSSELS – Identify the benefits that i citizens may have from the use of the iartificial intelligence within the offices of municipalities, provinces and regions of Europe. It kicks off at European Committee of the Regions the discussion on the opinion on artificial intelligence in public administrationwith the president of Piedmont Alberto Cirio to guide the work as rapporteur until approval in plenary in November. An opportunity but also a challenge. Artificial intelligence – explains Cirio on the sidelines of the Econ commission’s work – “can give us great prospects especially in terms of industrial growth and in terms of reducing bureaucracy and waiting times for people who turn to the regions and municipalities in all of Europe”. But at the same time “caution is needed” and public administration staff must be taken into account because the transition risks costing jobs. It is therefore necessary to think about a “transition that allows us to relocate people and also train new employees who will be asked to know how to deal with this additional tool”. Piedmont – Cirio recalled – “is already home to the Italian foundation for artificial intelligence”, he added, claiming for the Region the role of “capital of artificial intelligence in Italy”.
