Risk of cuts at the Taranto Post Office

«The privatization of Poste Italiane is harmful, divisive, an attack on work, but also on the communities which, with postal branches, lose a great social function and legality in the territories». As Tiziana Ronsisvallenew general secretary of SLC CGIL of Tarantowho together with the General Secretary of the CGIL of Taranto, Giovanni D’Arcangelo and the general secretary of the SPI CGIL of Taranto, Paolo Pelusoannounces a press conference for Friday 17 May at 10.30 am at the headquarters of the Chamber of Labourin via Dioniso, 20.

«We are talking – states Ronsisvalle – about a reality which in many municipalities of the province is synonymous with public presence, but which paradoxically, in the face of the proclamations of social, economic and productive diversification of our reality, leaves some territories absolutely deprived of the service. Just think that a Castellaneta Marina, the tourist vocation is made a mockery of by leaving the post office in the hands of a single worker. So also at Grottaglie. Or how to Martina where the post office only opens three times a week.”

And it is the new industrial plan that worries the unions: «The details of this further push towards privatization are not yet known – says Tiziana Ronsisvalle – but we know that i 60 post offices hey 500 employees who operate in the province of Taranto are at risk, because cuts, downsizing and even closures are predicted in municipalities under 5 thousand inhabitants”.

The detail will be exposed during the press conference which will take place on Friday 17 May at 10.30 am at the CGIL headquarters in via Dioniso.
