The Police arrested a 48-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman, seriously suspected of having committed 4 scams against elderly people in the cities of Torre del Greco, Torre Annunziata and Piano di Sorrento, in the province of Naples, between June 2023 and February of this year.
The agents of the Torre del Greco police station carried out a precautionary custody order under house arrest, issued by the investigating judge of Torre Annunziata at the request of the Oplontine prosecutor’s office.
The investigations began following the complaint of a 75-year-old man, who reported that he had been approached by a person in Torre del Greco, who presented himself as an acquaintance of his son and induced him to give him 150 euros as payment for a CD-ROM he had commissioned. from his son.
Subsequently, by simulating a phone call, the scammer tricked him into handing over the requested sum.
Through the analysis of the images recorded by the city’s video surveillance cameras and by the cameras of some commercial activities, the license plate of the car used by the fraudsters was identified, allowing the episode to be documented and the reconstruction of three other scams committed in similar ways in the municipalities of Torre Annunziata and Piano di Sorrento, to the detriment of elderly people
. The two suspects would have falsely represented to the victims the need to pay them a certain sum of money in the interest of their respective children, inducing elderly people to go to the ATM to withdraw the requested sums.
