COORDINATION TABLE ON CONTAMINATION BY CEISUM 137 IN THE ARVEDI PLANT – Telecolor

Coordination table today in the Prefecture in Cremona to clarify the situation relating to the presence of Cesium 137 contamination inside the Arvedi plant in Cremona, on a quantity of treated material, detected through the internal and external radiometric surveillance system. All representatives of the interested bodies took part in the meeting: Fire Brigade, ARPA, ATS Val Padana, Municipality of Cremona, Acciaieria Arvedi. The checks carried out jointly by ARPA technicians and the Fire Brigade. they would not have highlighted particular critical issues of an environmental or population protection nature; it also emerged that the systems for detecting materials entering the company had always been functional. We therefore wonder how the containers contaminated with radioactive waste arrived in Sardinia, given that in Cagliari values for Cesium 137 were detected equal to 0.40 of radioactivity on the first container and 0.18 of radioactivity on the second container analyzed. Confirmation has come from official sources that radioactive containers are still present inside the steelworks. No body wanted to provide data and explanations on how many tons of radioactive material are present in the plant and what the radioactivity values are. A central point of the question then consists in understanding, according to the epidemiologist Paolo Ricci, where the artefacts produced following the accidental melting of radioactive metals are now located.
