Herculaneum. The organizational machinery for holding the European elections in the shadow of Vesuvius comes to life. In view of the race to the polls on 8 and 9 June, in fact, next Friday – at 12 pm, at the Municipality’s electoral office – the 188 scrutineers called to guarantee the correct carrying out of voting operations will be drawn. Compared to various city government teams – starting from the “neighbors” of Torre del Greco, where a real political battle is underway within the majority led by mayor Luigi Mennella for the choice of polling workers – the The municipal administration led by Ciro Buonajuto has, in fact, once again focused on the draw method and put aside the “unpleasant” procedure of direct appointment.

A direction drawn up for some time and confirmed – without discussions or arguments – in view of the next race to the polls. «The choice to resort to the appointment of scrutineers is expressly provided for by law and, therefore, fully legitimate – the premise of the mayor Ciro Buonajuto, evidently “in defense” of some tricolor band of the territory – but here in Ercolano we have already decided for some time to resort to the draw”.

An orientation aimed at achieving a clear and precise objective: «We want to guarantee maximum transparency of voting operations – underlines the local leader of Italia Viva and national vice-president of the Anci – and avoid phenomena of vulgar clientelism. I note with some disappointment how, in various cities, the appointment of scrutineers remains a way of engaging in petty politics. In Ercolano, rather than arguing over a small place in the sun for 100 euros, we want to give an important signal of transparency to all citizens.”
