Turin – They used a radio-controlled submarine to transport drugs: carabinieri raid. Gang arrested
Since the morning of today, Tuesday 14 May 2024, the Carabinieri of the Turin investigative unit have conducted a vast operation in the provinces of Turin, Frosinone and on Albanian territory, carrying out precautionary measures in prison and searches.
The operation, part of an investigation into international drug trafficking coordinated by the Turin anti-mafia district directorate, involved international police cooperation, the office of the security expert in Tirana and Interpol.
The investigation, called “Car wash” because of the car wash managers involved, revealed a drug trafficking network with a logistical base in Volvera, where in 2022 a 62-year-old was arrested with 200 kilos of drugs.
The organization operated between Ecuador, Belgium, France, Spain and Italy, supplying cocaine, hashish and marijuana to the major Italian drug dealing centers.
The police identified two Albanian brothers as leaders of the organisation, which recruited “drug workers” in Italy and Albania to store, transport and sell the drugs.
During the investigation, it was discovered that the traffickers they had designed a remote-controlled submarine for transporting drugs, tested in Lago Grande in Avigliana.
From November 2021 to the end of 2022, investigators seized over 204 kilograms of drugs, including cocaine from South America via Holland and other substances transited from Spain and France via cars with homemade double bottoms.
