Calabrian Dermatological Days, Saturday 18 and 25 May in Catanzaro

The usual appointment with the Calabrian Dermatological Days 2024 is back, an important moment of scientific updating in the field of dermatology, with a wide range of regional and interregional interest, which involves professionals from the regions of Sicily, Campania and Basilicata. This year, the event will take place on Saturday 18 and Saturday 25 May, at the Hotel Guglielmo in Catanzaro, with two daily sessions dedicated to in-depth analysis of the most recent discoveries and methodologies in the sector.

The event is organized by Dr. Giancarlo Valenti, Director of the Dermatology Complex Operational Structure of the AO “Pugliese-Ciaccio” of Catanzaro, and organized with the collaboration of the Association of Italian Hospital Dermatologists and the Italian Society of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases, as well as with the free patronage of the “Renato Dulbecco” University Hospital – “Mater Domini” Presidium and of the Order of Surgeons and Dentists of Catanzaro.

The scientific direction of the two days is entrusted respectively to Dr. Domenico D’Amico and Dr. Pierfrancesco De Giacomo.

“In these two days numerous experts from various specialist disciplines will meet for an integrated evaluation and a multidisciplinary approach to the most common and important dermatological pathologies – explains Doctor Giancarlo Valenti -. On the first day, focused on inflammatory diseases such as Psoriasis and Atopic Dermatitis, innovative new treatments will be examined, including topical and systemic drugs such as interleukins, which have demonstrated effectiveness in reducing inflammation and associated symptoms. Psoriasis is one of the most common skin pathologies which, due to its incidence and psychological and occupational impact, has important social repercussions. In the last 10 years there have been very important therapeutic updates that have fundamentally improved the social and working lives of patients. The course is aimed at general practitioners, outpatient specialists and hospital doctors with the aim of updating scientific knowledge, coordinating the various healthcare professionals and creating a therapeutic path”.

“The second day will focus on Melanoma, a highly aggressive skin tumor that occupies a significant place in the cancer rankings for both females and males, depending on the different age groups – explains Dr. Valenti -. Although the incidence of melanoma has increased over the years, thanks to active prevention campaigns, there has been a significant improvement in early diagnosis, which has allowed a large number of lives to be saved. In some countries, such as Australia, where the incidence of Melanoma was particularly high, exceeding 40 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, a strong national commitment to prevention campaigns has contributed to gradually reducing this incidence over the last ten years. Early diagnosis is key to successfully addressing melanoma, allowing for the implementation of radical therapies and timely interventions. In this process, the key role of the dermatologist and the family doctor emerges as fundamental: the family doctor acts as the first filter, while the dermosurgeon intervenes subsequently to remove the lesion and, if necessary, perform surgical radicalization, resolving most of cases in a timely and effective manner.”

All the dermatological schools in the region will actively participate in the dermatological days, with contributions also from neighboring regions, guaranteeing an exhaustive scientific comparison.

The organizational secretariat of the event is entrusted to the Present&Future agency.
