TRIESTE – The new play areas were inaugurated this morning, 14 May, and the restoration work on the green areas in the BArcola pine forest, damaged by last autumn’s storms, was presented. The spaces, thanks to the CRTrieste Foundation, are now available again to children and the entire citizenry. Present were the mayor Roberto Dipiazza, the president of the Foundation Massimo Paniccia and the councilor for local policies Michele Babuder. The Foundation’s intervention, worth a total of approximately 220 thousand euros, brings back life to much-loved public spaces that had been literally devastated by the exceptional bad weather last autumn (28 October, 2, 3 and 5 November 2023). The Municipality of Trieste, with the resources made available by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region and the Civil Protection – for an amount equal to 138 thousand euros – also took steps to remove the plants uprooted by the sea and scattered in the pine forest, the irreparably damaged floors and the accumulated waste materials from the tide in the internal areas and on the play areas and to the arrangement of the porphyry cube floors and the uprooted benches. The intervention involved five play areas, two of which were restored while three were completely renovated.

As regards the green areas, the land has been delimited for new flowerbeds in which shrubs and bushes have been placed and the irrigation system has been restored. The works began on 2 February 2024 and ended on 10 May for a total cost of 182,899 euros.
