“The facts say it, Cesena is not growing. In 15 years no major economic reality has established itself here”

“They’ve always been telling us that things are good in Cesena, and it’s also true, but could we be better? And above all, can a slow but inexorable trend of economic and even social decline be reversed?”. The reflections of the councilor candidates of the civic list Cambiamo Luigi Di Placido and Stefano Angeli start from these questions, according to which – numbers in hand – Cesena is not growing, does not offer new opportunities to young people and has an economic development now close to zero”.

“It is not necessary to go for a walk in the historic center – write the two civic leaders – and notice the countless empty shop windows, which we are unfortunately now getting used to, but just look at some certain data. Which large economic reality has Cesena chosen to settle in over the last 15 years? None, while many people from Cesena have often emigrated to neighboring municipalities where they evidently found better conditions to work, settle and develop”.

“The chronic shortage of artisanal and industrial areas, following the resounding failure of SAPRO – continue Di Placido and Angeli – is a reality that we have been living with for at least a decade now and this is accompanied by an often bizarre road network, which has not improved and modernized for too long. Even the secant, a road construction of vital importance for the city, has been unfinished for at least 15 years with a Lot Zero, i.e. the connection towards Forlì with the main road system, always promised but never realised”.

“In recent decades – according to the two exponents of Cambiamo – the only car parks created have been those in large shopping centres, which evidently demonstrate how parking is useful and necessary for commerce, except retail, or in the urban center of our city, where parking lots have mostly been eliminated, even eliminated from projects that had won competitions such as that of Piazza della Libertà. In the face of this today there is only the promise of an agreement for a small and expensive car park at the Sacred Heart, late and insufficient”.

“The city needs an overall vision, a development project projected into future decades, while it always gets by on small-scale cabotage, trying more to promise than to achieve. Even in this sector – they conclude – a change of gear is needed and Cambiamo has in its civic DNA an idea of overall development of the territory, because economic development also means more resources for healthcare, the elderly, kindergartens and schools”.

The mayoral candidate of the coalition Marco Giangrandi also has his say on the topic, proposing a truly business-friendly Cesena: “Without businesses there is no work and without work there is no development. We must become attractive again, which is why we will encourage the establishment of new small-sized companies by eliminating local taxation in the first 3 years”.
