Guest of the city of Matera, Vittorio Sgarbi, is in the conference room of the San Domenico hotel who wanted to meet the press and citizens to promote his candidacy for the 2024 European Elections in the list of Brothers of Italy, Southern Italy constituency. Vittorio Sgarbi, former Undersecretary of State for Culture and mayor of Arpino, born in Ferrara on 8 May 1952, critic and art historian, full professor of Art History, academic of San Luca, enthusiastic about this meeting opportunity in his beloved Matera after the press conference we wanted to stay in the historic center of the city, to meet old friends, a short walk and a quick lunch in via del Corso. The event organized by the Provincial Communication Department of Fratelli d’Italia, supported by the provincial President of the party Michele Giordano and the regional President of the party Piergiorgio Quarto, constituted an important opportunity for discussion and dialogue between the party and citizens with the candidate. Sgarbi declared: “The desire to stand as a candidate came from the party leaders, Meloni, Donzelli and La Russa, with whom I spoke and to whom I gave my availability. We had been talking with Meloni for some time, then we talked about it with Donzelli in April and we started again in this final phase of the applications. It was born like this, since I am free and have a gift of recognizable votes. At the 1999 European Championships I got 100 thousand in the North East, almost like Berlusconi.
Among his statements he wanted to underline: “Better little from Meloni than nothing from Conte”. I am convinced that Fratelli d’Italia will exceed 30% at the European Championships. Today I am in Matera because I have known this city since the seventies, when there were few of us who visited it and loved it. I believed in the potential of this city from the beginning. When Matera was nominated for European Capital of Culture, I was one of the first to believe in it. Matera is the Venice of the South. 2019 was a great opportunity to make the city known to the world and even if there were no major events and that year was not adequately valorised, Matera won and today the city is among the most visited in the world, it has become touristy, with all the strengths and weaknesses that this evolution entails, but the important thing is that everyone knows Matera and everyone today wants to visit it. Matera today is like Paris and is known everywhere. We need to work to establish Matera as the capital of the South. I believe it.”
This evening Sgarbi will also be a guest of the city of Potenza. In fact, a press conference open to citizens is planned at 7:00 pm at the Hotel Grande Albergo.
