During the interview given to the microphones of Milan TV in which he announced his farewell to Milan, Olivier Giroud he received an emotional video from his teammates who wanted to pay homage to him with beautiful words. These are those of his compatriot Theo Hernandez: “I’m proud to have worked with you. It was a privilege, it was an honor. I hug you, I thank you, I love you, you know, you’re great. I hug you really tight.”
In three years at Milan – with two games still to play against Torino and Salernitana, the last at San Siro where he will be farewelled – Giroud played a total of 130 games, scoring 48 goals. Of these 38 in Serie A, 3 in the Italian Cup, 6 in the Champions League and 1 in the Europa League. All topped off with 20 assists. Among the most memorable moments are the brace in the derby in February 2022, the goal against Napoli a couple of months later, the goals against Sassuolo on the day of the tricolor, the acrobatic goal against Spezia, the goal against Maradona in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, the goal against PSG in the group stage of this year’s Champions League.
In the 21-22 season the Scudetto was won, which for many AC Milan fans brings to mind that “Giroud turned around” in the decisive derby against Inter. In October 2023, Giroud wore Maignan’s shirt (who had been sent off after the substitutions were exhausted), finishing on goal in the final minutes of the match against Genoa and also saving the result against Puscas. For Giroud, as is known, the Los Angeles FC shirt is now ready.
