Thanks to the intuition of two mothers who acted as detectives, it was possible to discover a ring of child prostitution in which their daughters were also involved, and which yesterday led the investigating judge of the Court of Bari to issue ten precautionary measures. The suspicions arose when they noticed a change in mood and habits in the sixteen-year-olds: in addition to coming home late, they had “started behaving in a decidedly eccentric way”. Worried, the mothers then started rummaging through their daughters’ bags and cell phones. From the photos attached to the chats they discovered that they allegedly had paid sexual encounters with adults. At that point they contacted the men by telephone to ask for explanations and went to speak to the owner of one of the B&Bs where the meetings took place, who confirmed their suspicions, causing them to sink into despair. But they didn’t give up: from there they began to write down telephone numbers, names, dates, screenshots taken from their daughters’ cell phones. When they understood the extent of the prostitution ring in which their daughters had ended up, and no longer being able to keep them under control, they decided to go to the police. One of the mothers showed up at the police station with four sheets of handwritten notes resulting from her personal investigations: material that proved fundamental for the investigators, so much so that it formed the basis of the investigation that led to the arrests.

THE CALL FOR HELP
But let’s take a step back. On the evening of March 5, 2022, this same mother requests police intervention in her home in Bari, explaining that – after having argued with her daughter – she had found a small quantity of a hashish-type narcotic substance in her bag. She then tells the officers that she has a strong suspicion that she is a baby call girl. Summoned to the offices of the Flying Squad on the following 16 March, the woman specified that Cristina’s behavior (invented name, ed.) had changed starting from the month of May 2021, when she started dating a girl of the same age who became her “friend of Heart”. “In that period, the two girls, in addition to coming home late – explains the investigating judge on the basis of the woman’s testimony – would have started hanging out with unsavory people and behaving in a decidedly eccentric way.” The two mothers then decide to team up and understand that their daughters had probably been led astray by another girl, just eighteen years old, who was an escort in the Marche region. This is why they intensify checks. The second of hers finds a man’s credit card in her daughter’s bag. The situation worsens when, in the autumn of the same year, the adult friend returns to Bari from the Marche. Cristina, one of the two sixteen-year-olds, appears increasingly “agitated, irascible and rebellious” and when subjected to specific tests she tests positive for cannabis. She also begins to spend the night out every now and then. At that point, her mother spies on her daughter’s cell phone, with the “technical” complicity of her little brother, and discovers a chat with an adult, who she immediately photographs. Cristina writes: «she brings the big gift», implying that she wants a substantial sum of money, and he replies: «I really like you a lot despite your age».

In the images “stolen” from the sixteen-year-old’s chats, there appear “sachets probably containing narcotic substances such as marijuana or hashish, expensive bottles of 2012 “Dom Perignon” champagne, credit cards and banknotes”. In one photo even appears the son of the Capriati clan, active in the old city of Bari. The two “detective mothers”, frightened by the content of those images, arrange to meet the man (it is January 2022) who tries to reassure them by saying that between he and Cristina have exclusively an “epistolary relationship”. However, he directs her to the manager of the B&B “who confirms her mother’s suspicions, claiming that the girl ran the serious risk of entering the world of child prostitution”. The litmus test came when, on 19 March 2022, the woman received a notification on her mobile phone of a Just Eat order with delivery to a B&B in Monopoli, in the province of Bari. She immediately called the police, explaining to them that she had suspicions that your minor daughter is in the company of adults. Indeed, the military found two of the prostitutes arrested yesterday, but not Cristina (who had perhaps already left). The mother, however, “had verified the presence of her daughter in that area, viewing some “stories”” on her Instagram while she was dancing in a nightclub.
