After the first day of rest we start again with a mountain stage. Much more difficult than the first uphill finishes of this Giro, both of which were won by Pogacar in Oropa and Prati di Tivo. This time there will be a series of climbs and previous GPMs that will make life tough for the riders who, obviously, will also have to be careful of the waste from the rest day. Will anyone get trapped? The ranking is already well defined after the Perugia time trial, but this will be another obstacle to fully understanding the objectives of the riders who ‘inhabit’ the top 20 of the general classification. Always in the hope of seeing some Italian triumph… I am 67 consecutive stages without the pink jersey for an Italian, we hope to at least see some more success.

Pompeii-Cusano Mutri: the route
The first 50 km are basically easy, then we’ll tackle it Harpaia (5.6 km at 3.4%) which is the first ascent of the day, classified as a flying finish. Also to be addressed Taburno crossroads and watch out for the next descent, especially in case of bad weather. After 80 km from the start the first GPM: Camposaurus, 6.1 km at 7.6% with a peak at 14%. Whoever wants to win the stage could already do a great job uphill, through their team, to tire their opponents. New descent and then several notches before the last GPM. We will have in quick succession Sanframondi Guard (4.8 km at 6.5%), Civitella Licino (1.6 km at 5.1%), Cusano Mutri (0.7 km at 6%) and then ends with the climb of Bocca della Selva. Last climb of 20.9 km at 4.6%, but peaking at 14% in the first part of the climb.

The favourites
The arrivals of Oropa and Prati di Tivo were just an appetizer for this Giro d’Italia, now it’s starting to get serious. But if Pogacar he dominated in the first week, it is very difficult for the Slovenian to miss this arrival too. The only one who can beat him is… Someone from the breakaway who managed to gain the necessary margin to beat the group.
Daniel Martinez he wasn’t at Pogacar’s level, but the Colombian from Bora showed that he was in condition in the last days of the Giro. In the event of a head-to-head match he could play his cards, even if he remains the underdog against the Slovenian. And then watch out for escapes. Runners such as those who have long since left the rankings Zana, Bardet, Storer And Paret-Peintre they could try.
