The “Legality, Responsibility and Rights Festival” organized by the Mediation Center of the Municipality of Ferrara and created in collaboration with the Emilia-Romagna Region, Urban Security and Legality Area, reaches its fifteenth edition.

Three days of initiatives scheduled from Thursday 16th to Saturday 18th May with seminars and events free and open to all citizens on the topics of Legality and Rights and which will host professionals and experts from all over Italy.

The events will all be held in Coletta Park, at the foot of the skyscraper, except the seminar aimed at journalists and citizens on the right to report illegalities, scheduled for Saturday 18 May morning in the City Council room in Piazza Municipio 2 in Ferrara.

Many themes will be covered by the guest speakers of the initiative: from the mafia, to the relationship between young people and legality, up to addressing the issue of the rights of people with disabilities in the field of sport.

The Festival of Legality will open at 10 am with institutional greetings from the Prefect of the province of Ferrara Massimo Marchesiello and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Ferrara.

Following this, there will be the presentation of the Public Notice graphic novel “Women and anti-mafia – Ten courageous protagonists of the fight against the mafia” (BeccoGiallo Editore, 2022), edited by Valeria Scafetta.

During the presentation Giulia Migneco (communication manager of Public Notice Local Authorities and Regions against mafias and corruption) and Isabella Masina (Public Notice coordinator for the province of Ferrara) will talk with some witnesses who have reported and directly fought the crimes perpetrated by the mafias, such as : Tiziana Ronzio, health worker from Tor Bella Monaca, activist and president of the TorPiùBella association (in video link) and Catia Silva, former councilor of the Municipality of Brescello and witness of justice.

The objective of the meeting is to make known the story of some of the many women involved on the front line, civilly and professionally, to prevent and combat mafia and corruption phenomena.

The meeting is dedicated and open to lower secondary schools.

On the afternoon of Thursday 16 May, from 5pm to 7pm, the awareness and training meeting “Youth and legality. The role of adults”, dedicated to parents, teachers, operators who work in various capacities with boys and girls. This topic, never more relevant than now in the face of repeated phenomena of abuse, bullying and cyberbullying – up to and including baby gangs – will be discussed in many voices by experts who work in the youth sector in the area. Michele D’Ascanio, psychologist of the Piccolo Principe Cooperative, will delve into the topic of rules and respect at school, Ilaria Galleran and Linda Borra, psychologists of the Pathological Addictions Service of Ferrara of the Local Health Authority, will present their prevention and intervention work in he area of ​​gambling has become increasingly widespread among young people, Elisa Massimo, psychologist of the Street Unit – Pathological Addiction Service of Ferrara of the Local Health Authority, will address the issue of legality, focusing on the risk for young people in this regard to the use of substances.

Finally, a focus on the topic of cyberbullying will be made thanks to the presence of the Postal Police with the chief superintendent Stefano Parziale, committed to promoting responsible use of the internet and social media in schools.

The event on Thursday 16 May is aimed at all adults who in various capacities deal with young people, in particular parents, teachers, public administrators, healthcare and third sector workers.

Friday 17 May will open with an informative meeting – from 10 to 12 – on the topic of the new forms of mafia present today in the social and economic fabric of our country, entitled “The new faces of the mafia”. The speakers of the initiative will be Catia Silva and Luigi Gaetti – former vice-president of the Anti-Mafia Commission in the 17th Legislature, undersecretary of state at the Ministry of the Interior with anti-mafia responsibilities -, who will talk about how to recognize new forms of mafia. Furthermore, the prefect of the Municipality of Ferrara Massimo Marchesiello will be present at the table. The meeting will be moderated by Isabella Masina, coordinator of Public Notice for the Province of Ferrara.

On the morning of Saturday 18 May, the last day of the event, the training meeting aimed at journalists and open to all citizens entitled “Whistleblowing, reporting illegality: laws, rules, news cases” will be held. The protection of sources, an ethical duty”.

The initiative – organized by the Order of Journalists, the Journalists Foundation of Emilia-Romagna, in collaboration with the Press Office of the Municipality of Ferrara and Assostampa Ferrara – will be held from 9.30 to 13.30 in the City Council room. Participation is free (registrations on the Odg training platform for journalists).

The guest speakers will be: Andrea Scarpellini (lawyer of the Milan Bar, advisor to the Advisora ​​Association), Carlo Bertini (former state official), Nicola Borzi (journalist), Sara Tagliente (journalist, director of Telegenova), Sara Chessa (journalist at Blueprint for Free Speech), Giovanni Rossi (journalist, former president of Odg Emilia Romagna, deputy general secretary and president of Fnsi; currently national councilor of Fnsi). Moderated by Alessandro Zangara (journalist and head of the Press Office of the Municipality of Ferrara).

At Marco Coletta park, we will continue at 5pm with the meeting “Disability and sport”, a moment of discussion on the topic of inclusive sport for the most vulnerable people. Carlos Dana and Davide Conti, guarantor of people with disabilities, Giuseppe Francesco Alberti, Cip Paralympic Committee of Ferrara and Mauro Borghi, Casp Paralympic Sports Introduction Center will be in dialogue. The athletes Azzurra Bovina Bambini, Para-powerlifter of Cus Ferrara, Italian champion and record holder, will also speak with their testimonies; Seif Eddine Gasmi, paralympic canoeist of the Canoa Club Ferrara, Italian and Italian paralympic canoeing champion, Massimo Zucchini and Laxmi Poppi, Italian champions of Paralympic Sports Dance Dfm physical-motor disability class and Karim Gouda, Italian paralympic swimming champion. The meeting will be moderated by Francesco Dondi, editor-in-chief of “La Nuova Ferrara”.

The event will end with an aperitif, organized by the Lo Specchio Association, offered to all participants, with live music. On stage the Musicians and the Rulli Frulli Band of Ferrara, musical groups active in the area on inclusion issues.

In case of bad weather, the Marco Coletta Park meetings will be held in the Multipurpose Hall of the Grattacielo (viale Cavour 189).
