The former president of Nutribullet Treviso Paolo Vazzoler – who left office on 27 February – made the following statements to Il Gazzettino after the club’s salvation in Serie A:
«The pain is the same, because the affection is the same. And it will never change: Treviso Basket is like a son, a piece of me, I helped create it and I will remain tied to it for life. After having played 5 A2 championships, the next one will be the sixth in Serie A in a row: in 13 years since its foundation, I’d say not bad. Having confirmed the category, despite suffering, is very important. Just look at the struggle to move up in A2, with important locations in terms of catchment area and investments. I don’t deny that I prefer a team with eight Italians and two foreigners, it’s easier to get attached. But this is the pinnacle of the movement and playing elite basketball it was one of the missions we set ourselves when we left».
«Of course, like every year, we would have liked to suffer a little less, the hope was to achieve a peaceful salvation. We’ve reached the last day, therefore without any possibility of appeal, although we could count on three potentially useful results. Nice to have won, without owing anything to anyone. Then, due to the separate ranking, we finished eleventh».
«Bosman changed everything. I’m pleased to see that our former players now play in the Euroleague or in teams with championship ambitions: it means we were right. TVB must hire the best players based on the available spending potential: futuristic, but with costs that are not yet to be reached. As Fabbrini, president of the Universo Consortium, says, we hope that someone else will come in and lend a hand in financial terms. Treviso certainly won’t take a step further than it can afford, otherwise we’ll get hurt».
