An evening of work for a nurse from the 118 service in Foggia turned into a traumatic experience when he was brutally attacked by a man rescued following a road accident in the city.
The violent episode occurred while the ambulance that responded to the scene of the accident arrived at the emergency room of the Riuniti hospitals. We report the statements here: “Already as he was getting out of the ambulance the man punched the vehicle. Then in the emergency room he hit me with a punch in the face and a series of slaps on the head,” said the nurse, who prefers to remain anonymous.
After the attack, the attacker underwent medical checks and was subsequently discharged. Meanwhile, the nurse, with 63 years of experience behind him, suffered injuries that will take about 10 days to heal completely. In the next few hours, he will formalize the complaint against the attacker.
The police intervened following the alarm raised by an emergency room nurse via a portable device capable of sending emergency calls with intervention priority. This device was recently introduced thanks to an agreement between the state police and the general management of the polyclinic.
“Our work is crucial for the community, but we are not protected,” commented the nurse, expressing bitterness. “We work to support our families, our children. We cannot live in constant fear of being attacked. We ask for greater protection to be able to carry out our work safely”
