«Happy to receive your closeness and to know that during this time in hospital you are doing well». This is a passage from the letter written by Pope Francis in response to the small patients of the Perugia hospital who attend the White Rabbit School here.
Pope responds to children in Perugia hospital Before Easter, the children themselves had written to the Holy Father following his hospitalization: “We understand you very well, even our days are sometimes difficult and full of suffering, they seem to never end!”. With that letter the children then informed Pope Francis of the White Rabbit School present inside the Santa Maria: «There are children of all ages who come from many different countries and sometimes we call it the ‘Rainbow’ school which brings a ray of sunshine in the darkness of illness.”
The letter The Pontiff’s response then arrived on Monday 13 May: «Dear friends, thank you very much for the letter you sent me and which I truly appreciated from the bottom of my heart. I am happy to receive your closeness and to know that during this time of stay in hospital, you are doing well. I like to read that in school, each of you can find a ray of light in the darkness of the disease. School is a meeting place. We need this culture of encounter to get to know each other, to love each other, to walk together. Forward on this path! I pray for you, for your parents and for your teachers and doctors. And please don’t forget to pray for me. May Jesus bless you and the Holy Virgin keep you. Fraternally, Francis”
