CIVITAVECCHIA – The Morosini ship and the Sirio ship will be parked in the port of Civitavecchia and visits to the population will be open from 14 to 15 May.
The multipurpose offshore patrol vessel Francesco Morosini and the Sirio patrol vessel of the Navy will be in port in Civitavecchia from 14 to 15 May.
The units are engaged in the Mare Aperto 24-1 / Polaris 24 / ITA MINEX 24 exercise.
During the stop in port, the ships will open for visits to the public at the following times:
- Nave Francesco Morosini: Wednesday 15 May, from 3pm to 6pm;
- Nave Sirio: Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 May, from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 15:00 to 18:00.
OPEN SEA EXERCISE 24
Mare Aperto is the most impressive exercise planned and conducted by the Command in Chief of the Naval Squadron of the Navy, which involves around 9,500 soldiers from 27 nations (of which 11 belonging to NATO). About four weeks of intense training, with over 100 ships, aircraft, submarines and unmanned vehicles. There will then be a substantial presence of amphibious units, both from the San Marco Marine Brigade and from the Spanish and French navies as well as from the US Marine Corps, all with their wheeled and tracked vehicles. COMSUBIN raiders and divers were also involved. In the inter-force and inter-agency context, Mare Aperto 2024 sees the presence of units from the Army, Air Force, Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza, as well as naval and air vehicles from the Coast Guard. Added to these are civilian personnel from various university institutes, research centers and organizations in the maritime sector, Defense and other ministries. This year, the exercise also involves NATO’s standing naval mine countermeasures group deployed in the Mediterranean (SNMCMG2), naval assets operating under the EUROMARFOR initiative, the Spanish landing force and the French Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier group .
