Neri Marcorè – The Good News (ph T. Le Pera)

«It is a polyphonic work which through metaphor and allegory speaks of the arrogance of power, which does not digest men who are too free of thought […]. Spirituality, intrinsic when we talk about Jesus and the Madonna, is however contemplated here in its earthly dimension, where “the greatest revolutionary in history” remains first of all a man, with a physicality that does not make him different from his peers. Yet, despite his limitations, every human being can accomplish extraordinary feats and give life to new courses every time he does not put himself in first place but puts himself at the service of a greater, collective good.”

With these words Neri Marcorè presents The Good Newsthe show in which he stars at Bologna Celebrations Theater Thursday 16th, Friday 17th and Sunday 19th May (weekdays 9.00 pm, Sunday 6.00 pm).

Conceived as a sort of contemporary sacred representation, The Good News alternates and intertwines the songs from the 1970 album of the same name by Fabrizio De André – written together with the composers Gian Piero Reverberi And Corrado Castellari – with narrative pieces taken from the apocryphal gospels, which the singer-songwriter himself was inspired by. This is the first concept album by the Genoese author, constructed almost in the form of a chamber opera, in which the score and text give voice to characters such as Mary, Joseph, Tito the thief, the mothers’ choir, a carpenter, the people, who De Andrè tried in some way to “humanize”, respecting ethics and religion.

Next to Marcorè on stage, the actress Rosanna Naddeo – who also lends his voice to singing – and the musicians Giua (vocals and guitar), Barbara Casini (vocals, guitar and percussion), Anais Drago (violin and voice), Francesco Negri (piano) e Alessandra Abbondanza (voice and accordion).
