BRUSH STOP FOR PIACENZA BASEBALL BEATED TWICE IN SALA BAGANZA – A bad Sunday in every way for Piacenza who, in Sala Baganza, experienced the disappointment of a double defeat for the first time in the season (8-1 and 10-4). Scored at the start of race 1 while in race 2 perhaps something more could have been achieved. Now the red and whites are third in the standings.

In the morning the game ends almost before it begins. The first defense is really problematic for Cufrè who concedes 4 hits and 3 bases. The rest is done by the defense with two errors, Sala thanks and takes the lead to 6-0. At this point it would be Piacenza’s turn to change the match but the feat fails also because the attack does not respond to the call. The first arrival at first is by Calderon (hit) at 4th and the first hit by Marelli at 5th, exploits which however remain ends in themselves. Sala for his part scores again in the 2nd and 4th (8-0) immersing himself in an all too predictable match. Piacenza struck when it was too late: in the 6th singles from Pancini and Hernandez and an error broke the Salesian shut-out (8-1). A bit little but with only 4 hits under his belt there is little to expect.

Even in the afternoon Sala travels on velvet but with a few more worries at least until the penultimate innings. Piacenza experiences the best moment of its trip to the Baganza with 2-0 in the first attack (single by Calderon, base by Cufrè and providential double by D’Auria). Unfortunately the offensive push ends there and in the 9 attacks the total hits will still be a miserly 4. Sala recovers and turns everything around two thirds of the way through the match (6-2). Piacenza makes too many mistakes in defense but finds a way to raise its head and in the 8th Cufrè’s single beats Carrasco and Hernandez home for the 6-4. It’s not enough because at the change of court Sala drops the poker which sinks the Piacenza team, condemning them to a deserved but perhaps excessive 10-4. And since it’s clear when it’s not a good day, this is where the injuries to Cetti and Calderon come into play, which we hope won’t affect the next home matches in which D’Auria’s team is called to make a prompt recovery.
