Two seminarians admitted among the candidates for Holy Orders

The seminarians Salvatore Cabibbo and Filippo Dicara were admitted among the candidates for Holy Orders. For the community of the Seminary, the parishes of Sant’Antonio da Padova in Comiso and San Giuseppe Artigiano in Ragusa, this is a particularly heartfelt moment which testifies to the attention with which the entire Church of Ragusa prays and works to encourage and accompany vocations.

«We entrust you – said the bishop Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa – to the intercession of the Most Holy Mary, so that she may obtain for you, from her Son, to be passionate seekers of God, patient weavers of brotherhood, humble and generous workers in the vineyard of the Lord» .

The rite was held on Saturday 11 May in the Church of the Carmelite nuns’ monastery in Ragusa, where the body of the Blessed Mother Candida of the Eucharist is kept. The solemn but intimate Eucharistic concelebration was presided over by the bishop Monsignor Giuseppe La Placa. During the celebration the two seminarians were dressed in the cassock and surplice by their parish priests, Don Enzo Barrano and Don Andrea La Terra. Also present were the formators of the Palermo seminary and the seminarians of the various dioceses of Sicily who were students of the Palermo seminary. In conclusion, the bishop thanked the archbishop of Palermo and the seminary’s formators for having welcomed our seminarians in recent years, who from next year will go to study at the interdiocesan seminary of Catania.

With admission to sacred orders one formally begins the full study of theology and the training as a minister of the Word and the Eucharist. It is a simple gesture with which the Church welcomes the decision of some of her children to be taken into service of the people of God with the Word and the Sacraments, through the ministry of the diaconate and the presbyterate and confirms their path of verification and training.
