“Corpse Bride”, the award-winning cult classic from 2005 by Tim Burton, returns to the big screen in a restored version. Meet up at the Politeama Paolillo in Barletta on Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 15 May to admire one of the best animated films and one of the greatest masterpieces of the American director and screenwriter.

Burton’s film (assisted by newcomer Mike Johnson) was a success with audiences and critics 19 years ago, loosely inspired by the 19th century Russian-Jewish version of an older Jewish folklore story, transposed into an imaginary era similar to the Victorian.

In 19th century Europe, a young and talented pianist named Victor (son of two wealthy merchants) is promised to a woman named Victoria (daughter of two disgraced lords). After the wedding rehearsals fail, the shy Victor, without knowing it, sticks an engagement ring on a twisted branch, or the skeleton of the finger of the deceased Emily, murdered on the wedding day, which upon awakening will lead him to the afterlife, with vicissitudes various between love, freedom, kingdom of the living and the dead. Johnny Depp voices Victor, Helena Bonham Carter voices Emily. Dark story with an exceptional soundtrack by Danny Elfman and John August. The song that accompanies the scene in which the dead embrace the living recalls the love theme of Tchaikovsky’s Romeo and Juliet and Tara’s theme from Gone with the Wind. Unmissable film.
