It was a trick simple, but ingenious.

At the time the policy was issued, that was enough alter the customer’s date of birth to secure lower prices without their knowledge. But before printing of the contract was carried out new registry change of the year of birth, so that the document reported the correct date.

Thus for years he had managed to have his fill of customers and commissions.

For this he was sent to trial for insurance fraud a 65 year old Roman former General Agent of “Groupama Assicurazioni Spa” based in Tivoli.

At the pre-trial hearing on Friday 10 May the judge of the Court of Rome Pasquale Santella has ordered the continuation of the hearing, setting the date of June 11th before the judge Andrea Pastori.

According to the reconstruction of public prosecutor Giancarlo Ciriellithe insurance agent with an easy trick would have managed to guarantee a benefit to customersmaking him pay a lower premium than he should, and himself with a dramatic increase in policies and related commissions.

In particular, again according to the reconstruction of the Prosecutor’s Office, the agent would have issued between 2014 and February 22, 2019 something like 1342 insurance policies by altering the tax codes of the real policyholders when entering data into the company’s IT system.

“More precisely – writes Prosecutor Cirielli – modifying some alpha numeric characters in such a way as to obtain more favorable years of birth in terms of premium to be paid for customers and then delivering to them, unaware of the facts, paper policies with the exact data reported instead”.

In short, the 65-year-old would have effectively falsified the contracts causing “Groupama Assicurazioni Spa” a financial damage estimated at 181,524 euros due to lower premium collectionsand abuse of office relationships and work performance.

The matter was reported to the Judicial Authority on 8 June 2019 bylawyer Mario Murano, trustee defender of the Groupama Assicurazioni SpA companyfollowing a administrative verification carried out in February of 5 years at the Tivoli Agency.

During the check, the trick of altered dates of birth emerged together with other anomalies, such as the use of risk certificates that had expired for years, of cars insured using risk certificates of trucks.

The Court of Rome will clarify how things went.
