PESCARA. From March 2023 to March 2024, the six systems that photograph traffic light violations (running a red light and crossing the stop line) recorded 63,936 violations. The data (from the local police of Pescara) arrives the day after the analysis provided by Facile.it on the Siope data, the information system for the operations of public bodies, updated to 15 February 2024 which, however, does not provide all the useful information to analyze the situation as a whole and does not indicate either the trend or the percentage of vehicles that committed the infringements compared to those in transit.

From the analysis of the data collected at Palazzo di Città, in fact, it emerges that in total the transits under the traffic light systems in question amounted to 30,799,941 so if the infringements ascertained are compared to the total number of transits, it emerges that it was fined, on average, 0.21% of recorded transits, equivalent to one violation confirmed for every 481 vehicles transited.

In detail, the infringements detected for passing the red light were 22,679 (on average 0.07 of transits), those linked to crossing the stop line were 41,257 (i.e., on average, 0.13% of transits).

In the last year, then, examining the data month by month, a decreasing trend in infringements was recorded which went from 6,571 in the month of March 2023 to 2,842 in the month of March 2024, i.e. it fell from 0.25%. of irregular transits (March 2023) to 0.12% (March 2024), a sign of greater attention to driving and, therefore, less danger and this is precisely the objective that the administration intended to achieve, by increasing the level of road safety. The Municipality’s report also distinguishes the percentage of residents and non-residents who committed the infringement: the former were 19,221, in one year, i.e. 30.06% of the total, the latter were 44,715, i.e. 69.94 %, which means that the people of Pescara are more attentive to driving than others and that, as the months have passed, the level of attention has risen even more.

“All these numbers – he comments – are useful to clarify, I hope. The data on infringements cannot be used to sensationalise, as usually happens, because we risk not understanding the reason behind certain choices. We must always get to the bottom of things, especially when it comes to road safety and human lives to be protected. Fewer infringements mean safer roads: the objective pursued is this, that is, reducing accidents, especially fatal ones and those resulting in injuries data on infringements, which concern a minimum percentage of those passing through certain points, tell us – concludes the mayor – that the people of Pescara are more attentive than those arriving from outside and have become more attentive over time”.
