New stage in Campania for the Giro d’Italia 2024: after the ninth stage on Sunday 12 May which from Avezzano arrived in Naples passing through Casertano and the Campi Flegrei, today the Corsa in Rosa observes a rest period and then starts again on Tuesday 14 May from Pompeii in the direction of Cusano Mutri, crossing thus four provinces between Naples, Salerno, Avellino and Benevento. Although to a lesser extent as these are shorter passages for individual municipalities, the passage of the Tour of Italy as always also involves slowdowns in traffic and various types of inconveniences, although as mentioned in this case they will be temporary phenomena. In particular, the Circumvesuviana will also stop, in the time slot in which the Giro d’Italia is scheduled to pass through the area.

The Volturno Autonomous Body, which manages the Circumvesuviana route, has announced that the closures and interruptions will affect three lines, and in particular:

  • Naples-Scafati-Poggiomarino line: the Torre Annunziata-Poggiomarino route will be interrupted from 12.55 to 13.50. Therefore, train 4125 at 12.26pm from Naples to Poggiomarino will limit the journey to Torre Annunziata. Train 4130 will originate from Torre Annunziata with departure at 1.32pm
  • Naples-Ottaviano-Sarno line: train 6123 at 12.22pm from Naples to Sarno will stop at Terzigno until the transit has been cleared and then continue the journey towards Sarno. Likewise, train 61338 at 1.38pm from Sarno to Naples will stop at Striano until the transit has been cleared and then continue its journey towards Naples
  • Naples-Pomigliano-Baiano line: the Scisciano-Baiano route will be interrupted from approximately 1.25pm to 2.25pm. Therefore, train 8131 at 1pm from Naples to Baiano will limit the journey to Scisciano. Train 8138 will originate from Scisciano with departure at 2.25pm

However, the streets of the various municipalities through which the Giro will pass are a separate text and will naturally remain closed to traffic, just as the ban on parking and stopping will be prohibited. Finally, the Boscoreale junctions of the Strada Statale del Vesuvio 268 and the Solopaca junction of the Strada Statale Telesina 372 will be closed, in both directions. Possible closures also along other routes: but in this case it would be a good idea to inform yourself in advance at the relevant municipalities involved. All closures and alternative routes will however also be indicated by staff on site during the relevant hours.

Olaf Kooij wins the 9th stage of the Giro d’Italia in Naples, beating Jonathan Milan
