“Race against hunger” project
“La Corsa Solidale” will take place on Tuesday 14 May 2024, from 09:00 to 12:00, the final event of the educational project “Run against hunger”
After the experience of the last school year, our school has also joined the “Race against Hunger” project for the current year. The project, completely free, open to primary and secondary schools, is promoted by “Action against Hunger”, an international humanitarian organization that has been operating for over 40 years in cooperation and links sport and solidarity with the aim of raising responsibility students, enriching their skills related to civic education, as required by the Ministry of Education and Merit.
Every year the theme of hunger is linked to a different nation and causes; for 2024 the country is Bangladesh.
Through videos, interactive activities and moments of reflection, the students of the second classes of the lower secondary school and the high school were involved by the project experts, who brought into the classroom testimonies of their peers who live in contexts of war, poverty and climate change.
Once the teaching phase was concluded, the same classes “were actively involved”, thanks to the Solidarity Passport, a tool through which they will have to achieve the objective of raising the awareness, in turn, of relatives and acquaintances on the topics covered in class. A section of the passport is also dedicated to donation promises, which oblige each sensitized person (friends, relatives, teachers, ATA staff…) to pay a sum for each running lap that the student manages to complete on the day of the final event called “La Corsa Solidale”.
On Tuesday 14 May 2024, from 09:00 to 12:00, “The Solidarity Run” will take place, the final event of the “Run against hunger” educational project.
The “Solidarity Run” is an inclusive and non-competitive sporting event, which will allow boys and girls to become agents of change and to make their energy and time available to support a social cause. A run/walk is planned in the locality of Bue Marino – San Leonardo, along a pre-established route, in which students from the second classes of the lower secondary school and the second classes of the secondary school will participate. In the days following the final event “La Corsa Solidale”, the girls and boys will return to their “sponsors” to collect donation promises based on the results they have achieved individually.
The realization of the final event will be managed by the group of teachers who gradually followed the various phases of the training path: Prof. Graziella Napoli, Coordinator of the project for our school, Prof. Giuseppe Bernardo, Prof. Antonina Barbera, Prof. Sergio Di Giuseppe, Prof. Daniela Silvia, Prof. Angelica Siragusa.
