The last time Lecce and Udinese faced each other in Salento dates back to 28 April. Baroni’s Giallorossi were returning from a very complicated period, characterized by just one point in the last eight games played and needed a victory to relaunch themselves in the standings, moving away from the “hot” areas that were only two points away that day.
Before that match, coach Sottil’s Friulians, however, actually occupied ninth position in the standings and were already largely confident of remaining in Serie A.
The match
On an emotional level, the match was not the best: the Giallorossi, until the second half, had not managed to become dangerous, without worrying the opposing rearguard. It was Gabriel who decided it Strefezza, on a penalty kick. A perfect transformation that gave his teammates a fundamental victory that had been missing for over two months. We all remember the end of the season but that match was extremely important for the future of the team, allowing the Salento team to get even closer to their goal.
