Qualify for the Champions League and win the final against Atalanta. Also to breathe new life into a budget that is too often in trouble

Massimiliano Allegri has often said that he considers Giovanni Trapattoni a master. Here, the good Trap today would remind him to “don’t say cat until you have it in the bag”. Max knows this well, which is why on the eve of the match against Salernitana, which can certify his Juventus’ qualification for the new super Champions League, he tends not to trust. “Matches must be won on the pitch, if you don’t win they won’t give you the points. And Salernitana is a lively team, we also saw it against Atalanta.” Certainly, the Juventus coach has in mind how important it is, even on an economic level, for the club to achieve the Champions League objective. He said it over and over again throughout the season. And now, in the space of four days, Juve can guarantee themselves around 60 million euros for the future, also counting the Italian Cup final.

THE CHAMPIONS

Money that not only can help plan the market, but which first and foremost serves to give relief to a budget that has too often been (definitely) suffering in recent years. Beating Salernitana would mean guaranteeing a place in a competition that will change its skin next year: eight matches (four at home) are certain, then it will depend on the progress of the Bianconeri in the new single group. Arriving in the top 24 out of 36 will guarantee, however, at least two more matches, whether they are the round of 16 (the top eight enter directly and seeded) or playoffs (from 9th to 24th). If Juventus usually estimated the mere entry into the Champions League between 45 and 50 million in its forecasts, with the new format an increase of 5 to 10% is expected, without going into collateral discussions, such as that of the box office or the prize for the placing in the championship. It should, however, be added that Italy will bring from a minimum of five to a maximum of six teams in the Europe that counts. Although it is certainly a positive event for the movement, for the individual clubs it translates into a smaller slice of the market pool. This is why today the qualification for the new super Champions can be quantified between 50 and 60 million.

THE FINAL

After the match against Salernitana, Juve will play the Italian Cup against Atalanta on Wednesday evening at the Olimpico. It’s the last chance to win a trophy after ending the last two seasons without any titles. Allegri announced that there will be no turnover against Salernitana (“The best team will be on the pitch”), even if naturally the match against the Nerazzurri has a greater degree of difficulty. On an economic level, winning or losing the final in Rome shifts around 2.5 million euros. While the path in the Cup, with consequent qualification, as a finalist, for the 2024-25 Italian Super Cup, allowed the Juventus club to cash in on around 20 million more.

THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ALREADY SAFE

Good news, regardless of how the next 4 days go, Juve has already received it in recent months, with the certainty of participation in the Club World Cup, which will be played in the summer of 2025 in America. Beyond the prestige, there is talk of another extra revenue, although the 50 million initially proposed seems a decidedly excessive estimate. In reality, the new competition should guarantee approximately half of that.
