The 1991 it is the second and last year of Alain Prost in Ferrari, which puts an end to an adventure that was anything but successful. One of the Frenchman’s worst moments in Maranello dates back to San Marino GP of that year.
Imola 1991, Prost does not take part in the race: Ferrari disappointment
Own in front of the fans of the prancing horsein fact, the four-time world champion becomes the protagonist of one of the most embarrassing episodes of his career.
After qualifying in third position, the pilot loses control of his 642 during the training tour (just before the first curve of the Rivazza), slipping on the grass of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Autodrome.
He follows him closely Gerhard Berger, who however managed to bring his McLaren onto the starting grid; Unlike Prost: Alain’s race ends there, even before it begins.
There disappointment of all the Red fans it’s palpable: their favorite won’t even see the traffic lights come on in a Home Grand Prix for the Scuderia.
This moment is remembered among the darkest of Prost’s entire experience in Maranello. The parties broke up at the end of 1991, having failed in their mission to win the championship together.
The devoid of successes for Ferrari it will continue until 1999, when it will win the constructors’ title. To see a driver dressed in red triumph again, however, we will have to wait until 2000, with Michael Schumacher; but this is another one History (of Formula 1).
