The initiative, promoted by History and Art Research Center – Bitonto, offered a unique opportunity to explore the history and identity of Puglia in the context of the first part of the 20th century, thus contributing to the valorization of the historical and artistic heritage of the region. It was the eighth conference that the association has organized since its foundation in 1968.

Five days dedicated to historical and artistic research which involved experts from all over Italy in the analysis of various areas of historical and artistic research. Among many, the historian Piero Bevilacqua and the art historian Elena Pontiggia.

All the contents covered during the conference will be further explored in the conference proceedings, available to those who participated with interest and curiosity, but also to those who were unable to attend the various moments. «It was a chance to explore what were particular years, full of positive and negative consequences, through the contributions of many scholars and researchers» underlines Marino Pagano, president of the History and Art Research Center – Bitonto: «There will still be to work. We will publish the documents because it is right that moments like the one now concluded do not end, but that they are productive and encourage further research.”

«It was a decidedly ambitious conference that reviewed the city in the early twentieth century from multiple aspects: territory, urban planning, sport, politics and much more. A conference that we strongly wanted, together with the Research Center, which we consider a traveling companion. A necessary conference to understand where we want to go because, if we don’t think about what our history has been, about what our traditions are, we can’t think about our future” adds Francesco Paolo Ricci, mayor of Bitonto.
