The experimentation of the new Community Pharmacy services has also started in the Matera area, made possible by a Resolution signed by the Commissioner of the ASM of Matera Maurizio Friolo following the Acknowledgment of the Protocol and the Technical Specifications included in a regional determination dating back to last November . An innovative performance model thus comes to life health services which can be carried out at the so-called ‘service pharmacies’ where people will no longer go only to purchase medicines and over-the-counter products but also to undergo important tests to diagnose certain pathologies in time. In fact, at all participating pharmacies, you will be able to take advantage of tests such as cardiac and blood pressure Holter tests, electrocardiograms, simple spirometry, or all those services for which the waiting lists at healthcare facilities are not very fast. The reports will take place electronically thanks to the connection with the specialist diagnostic centres. To date, screening for type 2 diabetes, screening for COPD – chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – and hypertension can also be carried out at the service pharmacies. Federfarma Basilicata reminds all citizens that in this experimental phase only users who are exempt from paying the ticket for pathologies related to the services to be performed will be able to access the service and that to undergo the examination they must be in possession of a referral from the treating doctor, even dematerialized. The pharmacies participating in the trial and displaying the appropriate poster represent more than 60% of the Lucanian territory, with 71 municipalities out of a total of 131 covered. Specifically, in the fifty municipalities of the province of Potenza (out of a total of 101) a total of 83 pharmacies participated while in the twenty-one municipalities of the province of Matera (out of a total of 31) a total of 43 pharmacies participated.
For the President of Federfarma Basilicata Antonio Guerricchio “the numbers of participating pharmacies represent excellent data which can only improve in the coming weeks with the participation of other professionals. At present it is clear that the capillarity of the pharmacy network is an important reality, an essential fact in the reform of local healthcare”. The President of regional Federfarma recalls how the pharmacy has multiple roles to which it always responds with efficiency and effectiveness: it ensures assistance and dispensing of medicines and health aids in 24-hour mode, it is organized with a network of multiple deliveries by medicine depots which allows to satisfy requests in a few hours. Furthermore, with the agreements on the delivery of medicines from the hospital-territory handbook, citizens suffering from particular pathologies are allowed to collect the medicine from the nearest pharmacy without having to travel and wait at hospital facilities. Another important aspect of the role of pharmacies is also given by the availability to administer flu vaccines and more. “Too many times in this region with questionable measures – concluded Guerricchio – we have seen the role of the first health facility in the area degraded. We hope that what has been achieved in this last period, albeit with difficulty, will be consolidated in collaboration with the new regional administration”.
