Thursday 9 May the first season in LBF Serie A2 of Solmec Rhodigium Basketball has officially closed. After the salvation achieved last Sunday with 64-60 in Game 3 against Carugate, the club called a press conference to thank the fans, sponsors and all the professionals.

It was the start of the dance Maria Paola Galassopresident Solmec Rhodigium Basket: “It was a rather challenging championship, but we managed to secure safety. I must admit, when we decided to take this step we were quite worried, but the seriousness of this club allowed us to achieve the seasonal objective. This is a solid club that focuses heavily on both the youth and male youth sectors. All of this, without the support of our sponsors, would not have been possible”.

Giulia PegoraroSolmec Rhodigium Basket coach, evaluates Rhodigium’s first historic season in A2 in a more than positive way: “I believe that, beyond having maintained the category, what we have left this season is the recognition from the other teams of our work. Rhodigium was respected by all the other teams, players and coaches. Last year four teams moved up to A2, including Rovigo: in addition to Giussano, who kept practically nothing from last year’s roster, we are the only one who is safe so far. When society decided to take this step, many in the industry called us crazy. We wanted to ensure that young girls came to Rovigo to grow and improve: this was the case with Zanetti and Tumeo. This season, with injuries and defections of various types, has not been easy at all: the additions made during the year helped us due to the length of the roster, but not because our players were not up to par”.

Closing the conference is Riccardo Casarottirepresentative of the main sponsor Solmec, which has accompanied Rhodigium for years: “This has been an exciting and passionate season for all the fans, including me. We suffered a lot with the girls, including the last match which I think was a reflection of the whole season: there were some ups and downs, but then we all rejoiced together at the end”.

The press conference was an opportunity to warmly greet Elisa Ballarin and Virginia Furlani. The two players, respectively captain and vice-captain of Rhodigium, officially said goodbye to playing basketball, closing a circle with salvation in A2.

Elisa Ballarincaptain Solmec Rhodigium Basket: “Sunday’s match was my last match as captain of Rhodigium, as I won’t be playing next season. For me, this salvation in A2 was the closing of a circle, given that the project of the first women’s team started only eight years ago. I would like to especially thank the fans: when you win often, like last year, it is almost easy to become attached to a team. This year, however, has been really difficult and I am grateful to the fans for continuing to support us”.

Virginia Furlanivice-captain Solmec Rhodigium Basket: “This company welcomed me six years ago now: I have grown a lot with them and I am really happy to close this chapter of my life with happy memories. We earned everything we got, especially this season”.
