BRUSSELS In 2022, the first 3 regions in Europe with the highest motorisation rate were in Italy: Valle d’Aosta with 2,339 cars per thousand inhabitants, followed by the autonomous province of Trento with 1,431 cars per thousand inhabitants and that of Bolzano with 935 cars per thousand inhabitants. Eurostat certifies this by publishing data relating to the presence of cars on the continent, estimating on average 0.56 cars per inhabitant, in line with 2021, with “considerable” regional differences. Among the 10 regions with the highest rate of motorization, the EU statistical institute certifies 6 in Italy (in addition to Valle d’Aosta, Trento and Bolzano followed by Umbria, Molise and Calabria) and 1 in Finland, Greece, the Netherlands and the Czech Republic. At the other end, the French overseas region of Mayotte (83 cars per 1,000 inhabitants) was followed by the Greek Peloponnese (203 per 1,000 inhabitants) and French Guiana (217 per 1,000 inhabitants). Of the 10 regions with the lowest motorization rate, 4 were in Greece, 2 in France, 2 in Romania and 1 in Germany and Austria. In particular, 2 of these were the metropolitan areas of Berlin (331) and Vienna (366). (HANDLE)
