The Cagliari Primavera coach, Fabio Pisacanespoke to our microphones on the sidelines of the 2-1 home success against Genoa. These are his statements.

On choices

“We have shown once again that we have great strength. Today we pulled two tricks out of our sleeve. The first is Grandu, who we have baptized ‘Grández’ because he reminds us of Nahitan (Nández ed.) for the way he runs and for the ringworm and the garra that he puts into it. Jokes aside, then there is Trepy who is a boy who has made a great journey and this credit must also be given to those who coach him in U18 like Claudio Bellucci and Francesco Pisano, who made the boy grow properly and who today he took the stage. I am very happy and this is further proof of how great our strength is.”

On the team’s performance

“Agostini certainly needs no introduction, he is a highly trained coach who makes his teams play well and gives them great organization. We knew we would find an opponent who would want to make it difficult for us this afternoon. I must say that the boys overcame the emotional factor, which in my opinion had a huge impact on the first leg match. Agostini is one of the family so for some kids finding him against him was a bit traumatic but the kids applied what was asked of them to the letter, the counter-moves worked and let’s say that the more we went forward the more the kids became aware of that which was the game, gaining advantages from it. I really congratulate my players because in my opinion they played 60-65 minutes at a high level, then they dropped off a bit but it’s also normal because they gave everything and even more.”

On the playoff race

“From day one I told the boys to think step by step in the sense that we are here trying until the last day to cling to that thread of hope that we have created for ourselves. We have done it gradually and we know that if we don’t get there it will only be to our own demerit. However, it remains to be underlined that the foundations for future successes have been laid.”

About the season

“There is no specific regret this season because in the moments in which we made mistakes we did it not because we had foreseen it. However, these are errors that you still have to take into account. So I don’t feel like highlighting a specific moment. AND It’s normal that if I’m asked which match could have brought us those 3-4 points that we’re missing, I reply as I told the boys, saying that we owe it to luck. If we think, for example, of the match against Sampdoria between the two legs, we could have scored six points but instead we only brought home one. If, however, I think of a match that we made mistakes during our journey and that we shouldn’t have made mistakes, I say the one at home against Monza. But the game is worth the candle, as they say. In football things balance out and what I like to think is what we did today on the pitch, not what I saw yesterday or the day before yesterday. The greatest satisfaction this season? Seeing the kids give everything, especially those who train with us 3-4 times within 15 days and who put into practice what we ask of them.”
