It starts from Viareggio the series of meetings Women in the Churchpromoted by the Diocesan Historical Archive and the Diocesan Library of Lucca, in collaboration with BiblioLucca – Network of libraries and archives of the Province of Lucca.
It will address the central theme of role of women within the Church. A topic – that of female emancipation and the conquest of rights – which has always sparked debates even within traditionally male-led institutions, such as the Catholic church. In the first meeting, Monday (13 May) at 5pm, church of the Santissima Annunziata in Viareggio, the figure of Clelia Merloni (Forlì, 10 March 1861 – Rome, 21 November 1930), founder of the Apostle Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the city of Viareggio, beatified by Pope Francis on 3 November 2018.

He will bring his greetings to this meeting the archbishop of Lucca Paolo Giuliettithen Don Marcello Brunini will introduce and finally there will be a speech by Sister Arianna Mazzocchetti entitled: Donna Per-Dono: mother Clelia Merloni. Friday 24 May at 5pm at the museum of sacred art Camaiore, the figure of Blessed Assunta Marchetti, originally from Lombrici, will be explored in depth. Finally, on Friday 7 June at 5.30 pm in the hall of the Archbishop’s Palace of Lucca, the last meeting of the cycle, with a historical excursus that goes from the first Women’s Commission desired by Paul VI to the solicitations on the role of women in the Church that emerged in the synodal assembly currently underway.
