Brando Benifei, head of the PD delegation to the European Parliament and re-candidate in the North West, interviewed by La Repubblica, returned to the corruption investigation in Liguria, which led to President Giovanni Toti being placed under house arrest.

«Toti managed the Liguria Region like a circle of his friends. Indeed: friends and supporters, more or less disinterested. This is why he must leave, regardless of how the criminal case ends.”

«The resignation is necessary. Toti managed the public good of Liguria as a private affair. It takes a year to make a specialist visit to the hospital but for the entrepreneur who had the right contact for a case, the green light from the Region arrived in a few weeks. It can’t work like this.”

«In these years of opposition to Toti we have cemented a coalition ready to build a serious alternative. Now there is no need for personalism or divisive attitudes between political forces: we must unite those who oppose this right.”

«Our party has many authoritative figures who will be able to propose themselves. The important thing is to unite the coalition in a project. Orlando’s figure is certainly one of the most authoritative and in recent years, with his work in the area, he has demonstrated that he can represent a credible alternative. I also appreciate his commitment to bringing a Ligurian representation back to the EU, given what is at stake, starting with the Pnrr.”
