“Pasta fest”, traditional Calabrian pasta is celebrated in Crotone • Wonders of Calabria

Among the excellent products that characterize Calabrian food and wine there is also pasta. There are numerous pasta factories that produce pasta shapes in every province of the region, which have become representative of the identity of the territories. A thousand-year-old tradition that has its roots back to the times of Magna Graecia and, however, today, Calabrian food and wine production is much more associated with wine, oil, onion, chilli pepper than with pasta. It is therefore with the aim of promoting local companies and productions that the Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro, Crotone and Vibo Valentia, through its special company Promocalabriacentro, intended to support the first edition of “Pasta Fest” scheduled from today until May 25th in Crotone.

A food and wine journey that aims at the rediscovery and valorization through the display and tasting, in special stands, of the various pasta shapes that distinguish the Calabrian tradition: to name a few, the fileja, the stranguji, the scilatelle, the chitarreja. The event was illustrated in the Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Crotone during a press conference in the presence of the president of the Chamber of Commerce Pietro Falboof the vice president Emilia Noceof the Tourism Councilor of the Municipality of Crotone Maria Bruni and the organizer of the event Roberto Talarico.

The first edition of the festival will therefore take place from 23 to 25 May in Crotone, in the heart of Magna Graecia, thanks to the support of the chamber of commerce, through its special company Promocalabriacentro, and with the patronage of the Municipality of Crotone. A gastronomic journey that from the “laganon” reaches the present day and which, together with the other local excellences, fully falls within that “material and immaterial heritage” of Calabria, because giving life to a good pasta is an art that is handed down for centuries.

«The administration and the department strongly support the creation of events aimed at valorising and promoting local resources which also highlight the link between culture, history, art, customs, tradition, nature and environmental sustainability», declared the Tourism Councilor of Crotone, Maria Bruniduring the press conference.

«Pasta Fest will be a container full of events in which, in addition to tasting the agri-food products of the pasta supply chain and its condiments from our companies, there will be alternating moments of music, exhibitions and workshops. We therefore invite you to participate to promote our territory and our businesses together” added the vice president Emilia Noce.

«The Pasta Fest represents an important showcase for our businesses – explained the president Pietro Falbo – during which they will have the opportunity to show their excellence, not only locally but also abroad.”
«This is why the Chamber of Commerce of Catanzaro, Crotone and Vibo Valentia – he added – has embraced the project with conviction, supporting it through its special company. The history of the origins and places where this precious food, pasta, was born must be handed down and enhanced and the Pasta Fest will certainly offer visitors a multi-sensory experience rich in the scents of our beautiful land.”
