At San Gemini focus on energy communities and possible developments

TERNI – Energy community, the role of energy in sustainable development, between decarbonisation and the energy transition. These are the themes that were analyzed during the workshop entitled “Role of energy in sustainable development” organized by the Più Umbria association and which took place in the Fresco gallery of the Grand Hotel in San Gemini. The event brought together industry experts, university professors and technicians to analyze and delve into highly current topics.

Present, among others, were Antonio Tacconi, president of “Più Umbria” and Vanio Ortenzi, vice president of the cultural association that promotes the development of the territory. Guests were regional councilors Roberto Morroni and Enrico Melasecche, who took stock of the projects carried out in Umbria on the environmental front. Following this, we talked about the Umbria Region’s support for the energy transition” with Roberto Morroni, Councilor of the Umbria Region. Focus, subsequently, on the contribution that artificial intelligence can make to the energy transition with Antonio Colavecchio, CSEA President. The theme of decarbonisation was particularly important with Edoardo Croci, Professor of the Bocconi University of Milan, who linked to the subsequent speech by the Professor of the University of Pisa, Massimo Ceraolo, entitled “The role of electric mobility in the energy transition”. «The energy transition serves to decabonize energy production – states Ceraolo – If we produce energy from the combustion of fossils we emit CO2. CO2 has climate-altering effects. Petrol and diesel are hydrocarbons and have carbon inside. When petrol and diesel burn we produce CO2. As a solution, the most appropriate is electric mobility and hydrogen to ensure that when we burn they produce only water and not co2 to reduce pollution.”

Federico Luiso, Engineer ARERA illustrated the role of renewable energy communities in the strategy aimed at energy autonomy and support tools. «The role of hydrogen is fundamental in contributing to the energy transition – claims Vanio Ortenzi, former Mise Cabinet Staff, protagonist of the following meeting – Hydrogen is an energy carrier, that is, it can be obtained through electricity which can come from renewable energy sources or fossil sources and this hydrogen produced subsequently powers electricity generators, so it is possible to replace the natural gas of fossil fuels using renewable energy sources. The Ministry of Business and Made in Italy believes very much in this strategy because there are international agreements and national ones of drastic reductions not only of carbon dioxide but also of 5 other climate-altering gases to avoid there being environmental problems or excesses due to destructive climate changes”.
“Scientific research in support of the energy transition” was, however, analyzed by Gilberto Dialuce, President of ENEA.
«Is the energy transition really realistic? This is the question we must ask ourselves – says Fabio Pistella, former President of CNR, protagonist of the debate “Necessity, attractiveness and feasibility for a realistic energy transition” – the key word is “realistic”. The climate has become a problem that must be addressed and energy must also have reasonable costs. The transition means changes that must necessarily involve new solutions such as the use of resources with a low environmental pact. Sustainability has three legs: environmental, economic and social, the latter with two dimensions: employment and consensus.”
The conclusion was entrusted to Antonio Tacconi, President Più Umbria. «Energy transition and sustainable development are fundamental issues – states Antonio Tacconi – because energy-related issues are essential for our families and our businesses. We must bring politicians, technicians and entrepreneurs together so that there are true and concrete answers that give the territory tangible results.”
