closing weekend of Catania Contemporanea / FIC Festival
CATANIA – Great success for Contemporary Catania/FIC Festivalwhich has animated the city since May 3rd with a busy calendar of events ranging from contemporary dance at the music, theatre, cinema and visual arts, thanks to the involvement of numerous partners. The Festival promoted by Scenario Pubblico/Centre of Significant National Interest for dance under the artistic direction of Roberto Zappalà saw a large turnout of the public in all the events proposed, recording numerous sold outs. With various notable hospitality options, the Festival will close on the weekend of 11 and 12 May with 2 days full of events.
Saturday 11 May at 7.00 pm preview of an open rehearsal of Gisellə (study)new creation of the company Cornelia inspired by the romantic ballet par excellence, followed at 9.30pm, again at Scenario Pubblico, Agamemnon – criminal case from the Petranuradanza Company, choreography from the repertoire of the authors Laura Odierna and Salvatore Romania. The ancient myth takes us back to the Iliad and the Oresteia of Aeschylus, the myth that questions us about the meaning of justice based on revenge.
Sunday 12 May at 5.30pm at the Teatro Massimo Bellini there is great anticipation for the world premiere of 4 Seasons (jubileum version)an award-winning 2013 creation – now revisited – by the Brazilian choreographer Samir Calixto on the music of Four Seasons by Vivaldi, performed by the Theater String Orchestra directed by Dino De Palma, also solo violin. Samir Calixto is a choreographer associated with Scenario Pubblico.
The grand finale of the festival will be hosted in one of the most important baroque sites of the Etna capital, the Court of Palazzo Platamone, seat of the municipal Department of Culture, which will host a concert of evocative impact, The Art of Taiko (9.30pm) dei Munedaiko. Musical group dedicated to the art of traditional Japanese percussion, in the overwhelming performance the taiko stimulate the musicians’ bodies as if in a dance.
Furthermore, during the weekend the spaces of Scenario Pubblico will host a national conference entitled
Anarchiveedited by Stefano Tomassini (dance critic and teacher of choreographic studies) e Roberto Zappalà, with guest programmers and artists from the international scene, who will discuss the theme of the festival, an in-depth reflection on the importance of the contemporary repertoire, its transmission to the new generations and the opportunities it offers to avoid the waste of productive resources. They will intervene Paolo Cantu (general and artistic director of the I Teatri di Reggio Emilia Foundation), Giacomo Cirella (general secretary of the Municipal Theater of the City of Vicenza), Lorenzo Conti (co-artistic director MILANoLTRE Festival/ dance consultant LAC Lugano Arte Cultura), Enzo Cosimi (choreographer | director of the Enzo Cosimi Company), Silvia Fanti (artistic direction Xing Bologna), Emio Greco (choreographer | co-director ICK Dans Amsterdam), Elisa Guzzo Vaccarino (dance scholar/expert), Except Lombardo (choreographer and artistic director Chiasma), Valentina Marini (co/director of Orbita | Spellbound National Dance Production Center / President of AIDAP | Federvivo), Michele Merola (choreographer | artistic director MM Contemporary Dance Company), Cristina Kristal Rizzo (performer and choreographer), Gilberto Santini (AMAT director / ARTI President), Stacz Wilhelm (artistic coordinator Nederlandse Dansdage/ co-founder Matter Affects Foundation).
The Festival saw the involvement of important entities, as well as the collaboration of Municipality of Catania which guaranteed the use of strategic places in the city, the plurality of close synergies in the territory with the Massimo Bellini Theatretogether with which Scenario Pubblico activated the three-year memorandum of understanding Be resident: dance in the city, Isola Cultural Hub, Etnea Musical Association, Brodbeck Foundation, Città Teatro Association, Oelle Foundation, Cinema King. The Festival also benefits from the support of Chamber of Commerce of South-East Sicily, Of Asec Trade as sponsor, and of the technical sponsor Majoca.
