Lecce, almost 700 candidates in the field for 22 lists

The electoral offices set up in the 29 Municipalities voting in June – Lecce and 28 other entities in the province – will be open this morning starting from 8. And until tomorrow at noon the experts will have the task of verifying and validating the candidacy proposals of over 700 aspirants to the municipal council in the capital, divided into 22 lists supporting four candidates for mayor: Carlo Salvemini, Adriana Poli Bortone, Alberto Siculella And Agostino Ciucci. In the province, however, starting from Copertino, in the 28 Municipalities up for voting, if the predictions of the day before are respected, there will be a total of 59 candidates for the mayoral position. And there will be at least 85 connected lists, with an army of 660 candidates for the municipal councils .

The situation

In Lecce, the first 10 lists to be filed already this morning could be those linked to Adriana Poli Bortone, centre-right mayoral candidate in the June local elections. But some lists of 32 names will also arrive during the day – 9 in total as expected – drawn up by parties and movements of the centre-left coalition in support of the outgoing and re-nominated mayor, Carlo Salvemini. Also ready to formalize the candidacy, with one and two lists in support respectively, are the two outsiders Agostino Ciucci and Alberto Siculella. In any case, you have until tomorrow at noon to file the lists of candidates for the City Council. And within the same deadline, barring twists or last-minute defections, the lists presented in support of the four candidates for mayor will be 2, with over 700 aspirants for a seat in the Council at Palazzo Carafa.
An army of candidates – 320 those in the field for the centre-right coalition – which Poli Bortone will officially present tomorrow evening at 7pm in Piazza Mazzini. Starting from the mayor’s list, it will bring the symbol of Io Sud as a gift. The candidates from the parties’ reference lists will also be on the streets: Fratelli D’Italia, Lega and Forza Italia in the lead. And then the civics and the movements. Starting from Prima Lecce – Andare Oltre, civic reference of the Northern League senator, Roberto Marti, and “Tutta Lecce” coordinated by the former deputy Ugo Lisi. Also protagonists are Paolo Pagliaro’s Salento Region Movement and the aspirants to the Council candidates in the list that holds the UDC and Puglia Popolare together. And again, the group of young people who refer to the outgoing councilor Giorgio Pala and will be candidates with “Lecce Futura”. Finally, completing the list of lists for Poli Bortone is the civic Voce Nazionale which refers to Mario Spagnolo.
On the opposite front, for the centre-left, the four civics of reference of the regional councilor, Alessandro Delli Noci, will inaugurate the cycle of presentation of candidatures to the city. The appointment with the 128 aspirants for a seat on the Council at Palazzo Carafa in the field with Noi per Lecce, “Civic Conscience”, “Sveglia Lecce” and “Avanti” is set for Sunday at 11 in the “Massimo” cinema hall. The Democratic Party and Lecce Città Pubblica, Salvemini’s reference civic body, are also ready to file their lists in the next few hours. And then the 5 Star Movement and “Lecce Città Giusta” which brings together the Italian Left, the Socialist Party, the Greens and Progetto Civitas.

Finally a list for Ciucci on the field with “Diritti e Civiltà per Lecce” while the other outsider Sicuella will face the June challenge with “Mind” and “Aria”.
