May in Ferrara is the month of the Palio, a tradition that historically characterizes the Emilian city. The ancient splendors of the Estense city return: after the evenings with the videomapping show on the facade of the Palazzo Ducale – once the home of the Este family – the celebrations continue which will involve and enrich the city throughout the month.

The art of flag-wavers and the ancient games of the Este flags will be the protagonists of the upcoming weekend, while the Magnificent Procession on Saturday 18 May will cross Corso Giovecca and the historic centre, starting from 8.45pm, amidst drum rolls, rustling of flags, ladies and knights parading through the streets of the city.

Finally, on Saturday 25 May, at 8pm, Piazza Ariostea will come alive with the exciting Palio races, in a breathtaking evening show, under the stars. The champions of the eight Contrade of Ferrara will compete, who will take to the field with their own coats of arms and banners. All events have free entry, more information on www.inferrara.it

Meanwhile, the exhibition dedicated to Escher continues until July 21st at Palazzo dei Diamanti. Any info on www.palazzodiamanti.it
