The handover with Genoa took place in Turin
An imaginary journey that starts from Genoa and arrives at the tip of the country. It was sealed on Saturday 11 May in Turin by the official passing of the baton between Genoa, the outgoing Book Capital, and Taurianova, the 2024 Book Capital.
The journey of Taurianova, Italian Book Capital, begins at the Turin Book Fair which, from the heart of Calabria, lands at the Fair to present the project awarded by the Ministry of Culture through Cepell and continue to weave that cultural thread that binds the local Calabrian communities with the other Italian capitals in the book. «Writing a story together» is the motto chosen by the city Capital of the Book 2024 to have a positive impact on the narrative linked to Calabria.
«We are at the Book Fair with a title that fills us with pride as much as responsibility – commented the Mayor of Taurianova Rocco Biasi –. The notable synergies that have been activated with Genoa, the city that preceded us in the title, as well as with the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, with the Calabria Region, this year at the Show with a special dedication to Saverio Strati for the centenary of birth, show the direction in which we are working, that is, to activate a dense cultural network system that can give value to the figures of our territory while filling the gaps, starting from educational poverty. On May 16th, the inaugural day of the Book Capital year, we will start with a meeting on the topic, which represents one of the main focuses of the project awarded by the MiC”.

The events featuring Taurianova Capitale del Libro 2024 will start at 11.30, when the official handover will take place between the cities of Taurianova and Genoa, Capitale del Libro 2023, organized by Center for books and reading. At the meeting, moderated by Maria Grecothe President of Cepell will be present Adriano Monti Buzzettithe director Luciano Lanna, the mayor of Genoa Marco Buccithe mayor of Taurianova Rocco Biasithe Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Taurianova and artistic director of Taurianova Capitale del Libro 2024 Maria Fedele. We will discuss the objectives achieved, possible synergies and future projects, in light of the results obtained by the city of Genoa during 2023 and the initiatives already launched by the town of the Piana di Gioia Tauro for 2024.
The events dedicated to the Italian Capital City of Books 2024 continue, moderated by the journalist and co-director of Taurianova Capitale del Libro Piero Muscari. At the stand of the Calabria Region, at half past twelvea panel entirely dedicated to the important recognition obtained by Taurianova, during which mayor Biasi and councilor Fedele will be welcomed by the Vice President of the Calabria Region Giusi Princi.
Next, hours 1:00 pmthe two representatives of Taurianova Capitale del Libro will then be guests of the stand of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria, together with Giuseppe Falcomatàmayor of Reggio Calabria, e Franco Arcidiacocoordinator of Calabrian publishers.
Instead, the stand of the Italian Unitary Writers Federation (FUIS), at 3.30 pm, will host the last panel on the new Capital of the Book, for a meeting with Christmas Rossipresident of FUIS e Franco ArcidiacoCittà del Sole editions.
At 5pm Taurianova Capitale del Libro 2024 will instead be a guest at Lingotto Fiere – stand of the Municipality of Pianezza (TO), OVAL pavilion stand W193 – for a meeting of the municipalities belonging to the Association of Grimaldi Historic Sites which will see the cities of Genoa and Taurianova Capitale del Libro as guests Book, both belonging to the Grimaldi historical sites.
