Icelandic teachers in Ortisei for “nature pedagogy”

Ortisei. A delegation of Icelandic nursery school teachers went to the Salieta nursery school in Ortisei to experience first-hand the activities of the nature pedagogy programme. Nature pedagogy has been one of the educational priorities of Salieta kindergarten in recent years. Last week, a delegation from the Nordurbergi nursery school in Hafnarfjordur in Iceland went to Ortisei to delve deeper into the topic.
The director of the “Ladinia” kindergarten teaching club, Genny Ploner, provided the Icelandic teachers with a brief historical overview of Ladin kindergartens, introduced the delegation to the pedagogical concept of nature education and spoke about the peculiarity of Ladin kindergartens: the plurilingual approach.
“Not only multilingualism, but also biodiversity and the richness of our natural and cultural landscape are taught in the Ladin education system since kindergarten, because languages and nature go hand in hand,” said the director of the Department of Education , Ladin education and culture, Edith Ploner.
The Icelandic delegation had the opportunity to experience firsthand in the forest how education and nature proceed in harmony. Even in Iceland it is customary to spend time outdoors with kindergarten children, but the landscape, characterized by volcanic activity, offers completely different experiences. Despite the large distance between Icelandic and Ladino kindergartens, there are many similarities in the educational work and pedagogical approach. The contact person for the project is the first collaborator, Ingrid Mussner, who has undergone specific training and has been participating in refresher courses in this area for several years.
