“Crocodile tears from politics about the stabbed policeman”

“The injury of our colleague at Lambrate station must represent a warning to the political class that talks about safety and then reduces resources for our sector. A warning for those who persist in thinking that soldiers on the streets are useful when they only represent a way to increase perceived safety, not real safety. We also need effective control of the territory in Milan that only the police force can guarantee.” This was stated by Pietro Randazzo, provincial general secretary of the Silp CGIL of Milan. “We are pleased by the closeness of institutions and politics – adds Randazzo -, but we cannot stand crocodile tears. In Milan there are 500 police officers missing, we have denounced this several times and with the retirements expected in 2024 the situation risks getting worse. The real problem is that preventing crimes is not newsworthy, but it is the only way to give real security to citizens. Our colleague injured tonight risks his life in hospital for doing his duty, these are things that must not happen even if unfortunately those who wear a uniform always take risks into account.”
