The Pozzuoli Coast Guard seizes a metal finishing plant due to environmental criticalities – Chronicle Flegrea

POZZUOLI – Given the numerous pollution phenomena that have occurred in the Municipality of Giugliano in Campania, the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Naples North has coordinated in-depth and complex investigative activities concerning compliance with environmental legislation at industrial sites which, due to the type of activity productive,
were potentially risky for the environment. The aforementioned investigative activities led the various judicial police sections to carry out investigations at the Cuma purifier, as well as at the industrial areas in the relevant vicinity. The checks also made it necessary to carry out sampling in order to better define the origin of the alterations in the environmental parameters. In this context, the soldiers of the Coast Guard of Pozzuoli and Mondragone, under the coordination of the PM Dr. Veronica Soriano, have carried out an inspection in recent days at the operational headquarters of a company specialized in chemical galvanizing and metal finishing processes . The check, carried out jointly with specialized technical personnel from ARPAC, highlighted the poor state of maintenance of the production, sludge purification and abatement of atmospheric emissions plants, as well as very serious critical issues concerning the management of the waste cycle and, in general , failure to comply with
requirements of the relevant environmental authorizations. These investigations also highlighted the almost total lack of precautions taken towards the workers, all of whom lacked personal protective equipment during
the work activity. The activities concluded with the preventive seizure of the production plant area, covering 4,000 m2. approximately, already validated by the GIP, and the acquitted complaint for the owner of the plant for environmental pollution, uncontrolled storage of dangerous waste, dangerous throwing of things and failure to take accident prevention precautions. Furthermore, environmental offenses of an administrative nature were ascertained and contested, with the consequent raising of 5 fines for a total of over €40,000, with consequent reporting for subsequent warning to the competent public administrations.
