Homage to Ennio Morricone from the Mascagni Conservatory

Friday 10 May, at 9.30pmwill perform at 4 Mori Theatre of Livorno the jazz quintet of the prof. Mauro Grossi together withString Orchestra of the Mascagni Conservatory. The quintet, composed of the two teachers of the jazz department of the Conservatory, Mauro Grossi on the piano and Francesco Petreni on drums, also features the collaboration of Stefano “Cocco” Cantinion the saxophone, and Gabriele Evangelista, on double bass. To complete the lineup of the quintet, the special guest Fabrizio Bossoan internationally renowned trumpeter who needs no introduction in the cosmopolitan jazz scene.

The project was curated by the head of the Jazz Department of the Conservatory, prof. Mauro Grossi, who wanted to give deserved prominence to first-rate musical materials, condemned to oblivion by public failures in theaters or branded by film critics. In fact “Ennio Minor” is a concert that features the music of composer Ennio Morricone which represents the exception to the rule that “music in cinema is important, not decisive”.

Just as Morricone’s music has often been able to amplify the emotion conveyed by the images and vice versa, similarly there have been collaborations in which Morricone probably did not find his right framework. Just as works that did not have the success they deserved caused a terrible reception from critics. ‹‹We – explains Mauro Grossi – wanted to go and find these musical jewels buried in oblivion, but still extraordinarily powerful thanks to the great creativity of the Maestro.›› In terms of timbral suggestions, the group of the String Orchestra together with the quintet jazz is a bottomless well of traditions, styles, possibilities and colors. ‹‹As the creator of this project, I am proud to have the opportunity to carry it out in my city, Livorno, thanks to the support of the Mascagni Conservatory, where I have been a teacher for many years›› concludes Grossi.

The concert is ad Free admission.
