The new motor dredger purchased in recent months by the municipal administration thanks to the community funds of measure 1.43 “Ports, landing places, auction rooms and fishing shelters” will come into operation by the end of May for an action to contrast the erosion of the stretches of Tonnarella and San Vito beaches.
It will in fact be engaged in a marine sediment movement activity to be carried out with its own booster delivery pump with which it is equipped, for the collection of material from the submerged part of the beach, at a variable distance of approximately 50-200 m from the line of the coast in the identified sampling areas, for the subsequent pumping of the same sandy material towards the emerged beach, in order to increase its width put to the test by the wave motion.
This activity of partial restoration of the beaches of Tonnarella and San Vito through the motor dredger was entrusted by the municipal administration following a Mepa tender to the RE.GI.NA company. srl of Mazara del Vallo for a total amount of approximately 45 thousand euros. The administration will make available the motor dredger which for a period of 45 days the executing company will use for the operations of collecting and spreading the materials collected on the beach with 2 people on board the same dredge, a support vessel in tow and 2 people on board the same support vessel for pipe hooking operations.
The person responsible for the procedure is the surveyor Mario D’Agati of the municipal technical office.
In the affected stretches of beach of San Vito and Tonnarella, leveling operations of the sandy material will then be carried out by the company awarded the coastal cleaning service which has already started the preparatory operations (see previous press note)
