Alongside the sick person, a conference in Rimini

“Care report and informed consent. Next to the sick person. Law 219/2017” is the title of the conference organized by the SSD Palliative Care and Hospice of Rimini in concert with the professionals of the Local Palliative Care Network AUSL of Romagna, scheduled for Friday 17 May, from 2 pm, at the Sala Sole of the SGR Congress Center in Rimini (via Chiabrera 34b).

With the help of experts in legal, health, social and bioethical disciplines the aspects of Law 219/2017 “Regulations regarding informed consent and advance treatment orders” will be analysed, which recognizes fundamental ethical principles for citizens: the right to receive information, in an understandable and complete way, on their state of health, to be accompanied in therapeutic choices and to be able to express a judgment on what they believe to be disproportionate for their quality of life.
The sick person can therefore participate in the definition of the treatment path, accept or refuse, partially or even totally, the proposed therapies and as a consequence of this the doctor is exempt from civil or criminal liability.

“The suffering patient asks the doctor to work to ensure appropriate pain therapy and the provision of palliative care – explains the Dr. Cristina Pittureri, responsible for the Simple Departmental Palliative Care and Hospice Structure of Rimini – and, in cases of poor short-term prognosis, to abstain from any unreasonable obstinacy in treatment, but also to resort to continuous deep palliative sedation in association with pain therapy in presence of suffering refractory to health treatments, with the consent of the interested party. The law establishes that the time dedicated to informing and listening to the patient is time for treatment. The conference will therefore pay particular attention to the value of informed consent and the patient’s relationship with the treatment team”.

After the institutional greetings, in particular from the Councilor for Health Policies of the Municipality of Rimini, the proceedings will be opened by Mirco Tamagnini, Director of the Districts of Rimini and Riccione, while in the first of the three sessions, approximately at 3.10 pm, it is expected the intervention at the invitation of the Bishop of Rimini, Nicolò Anselmi, on the theme “The community dimension of “taking care” of the most fragile people”.

The event, accredited as an ECM course with recognition of credits, is aimed in particular at healthcare professionals who operate and collaborate in the Local Network of the Romagna AUSL (basic and specialist palliative care) with the aim of supporting them in the application of Law 219/2017.

Participation is open to doctors, nurses, OSS, psychologists, social workers and physiotherapists of the AUSL of Romagna and the Romagna Institute for Tumor Studies “Dino Amadori” – IRST-IRCCS of Meldola, and is open – by invitation – also to representatives of local associations and non-profit organizations.
